Greensburg Cubed
Students from KSU’s College of Architecture and Design have been designing and building 10’ cubed modular buildings to be located in Greensburg. Greensburg GreenTown is a nonprofit organization established to provide the residents of Greensburg, Kansas with the resources, information and support they need to rebuild Greensburg as a model green community following the May 2007 tornado. Each cube has a practical function and also educates people about green technology and products. The designs include Green Haus (pictured above and below), which displays various sustainable building materials and techniques with a LEED checklist, and Ice Cube (below), which features a rain water collection station (designed by Jacob Henley and Melody Meek). There are lots more photos and models on the moderns r us's Flickr site. Thanks to Gregory La Vardera, editor at materialicious.

Hi. I am a Greensburg resident, and i work for GreenTown, and I just wanted to tell you thanks for the article... and that the cubes are even better in person!
ReplyDeleteThat's very kind of you - they must be marvellous if they're better than they look!
ReplyDeleteHey
ReplyDeleteGlad you found my photos of the cubes. You should be hearing a lot more about Greensburg in the coming months.
They're great (the fine chaps at materialicious pointed me in your direction). Do let us know of more shedlike structures you work on.
