Samuel Johnson's favourite summerhouse?

Streatham Park was built in 1730 by Ralph Thrale whose son Henry and Henry's wife Hester were pally with many wellknown artists and writers. Among them was Samuel Johnson who liked the summer house in the grounds (pictured above) and probably worked and relaxed there. Sadly, the summerhouse was moved to Kenwood where it was destroyed by arson in 1991. For more on the Thrale family, go to the marvellous Thrale.com
