Bathing sheds

Bathing machines, that 19th century sine qua non of a trip to the seaside in France, Germany and America as well as Britain, were really sheds on wheels. Naturally men's sheds were placed some distance away from women's but built on similar lines: wooden frames, 6ft by 8ft with a shedlike roof, either painted or covered in adverts. Each had a front and back door, about 4ft off the ground. There's a nice short piece about bathing machines at Victoriana.com.
