Your shed on television for National Shed Week

Tiffany Foster, features producer at ITV (Thames Valley) is keen to run a piece on sheds in the runup to National Shed Week. She is interested in getting in touch with potential entrants in Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Hampshire, Buckinghamshire & Surrey (outside the M25) and also north Hampshire. "Given the iconic status they have in British culture," she says, "I believe we could turn it into a fun feature for local news." If you'd like to get in touch with her, you can email Tiffany here

  1. "Iconic status of the shed" - what is it about sheds that appeals to the national psyche? Maybe it's the Englishman/home/castle theme. If we can't have the castle, then we settle for sheds. Did anyone read in Jeremy Paxman's excellent book The English about his ideas on our national obsession with houses, privacy and gardens? He says only the English could have blamed race riots on people involved having to live in flats. Now if they'd had a nice in the back garden we might have avoided all that trouble.

  2. Oops. Last sentence in that comment should read "Now if they'd had a nice shed in the back garden..."

  3. I haven't read Paxo on gardens but shall look out for it now in Waterstones (I may skim it rather than buy it, sorry Jeremy).
