Boscombe is very much in the beach hut news at the moment. Architects Journal reports that a competition has been launched to find a team to design and build beach huts there to replace five existing beach huts - these will be the first in the UK designed to be accessible to disabled users.
Meanwhile, Savills have been confirmed as sales agent for the 21st century surfpod beach huts designed by Wayne and Gerardine Hemingway. Each pod will feature coastal artwork from Wayne Hemingway’s personal collection and will be situated within the revamped Overstrand building. They will all have mains electricity, hot and cold running water, and French doors leading onto a small private balcony over looking the beach, as well as rather nice kitchens and specially designed beach furniture. They will be for day-use only. More than 400 people have pre-registered their interest in purchasing the pods which will cost £64,995 for a single pod and £89,995 for a double. Artists impressions of the pods are above and below.
