Is working from home greener than commuting?

There's an interesting follow-up by Lloyd Alter on Treehugger to the BBC Radio 4 programme earlier this week featuring myself talking to Alice Roberts (pictured): he makes some very good points about the study which suggested shedworking and working from home was not as green as people supposed. You can read it here. Well worth a browse.

I can't believe that homeworking isn't greener than office working. My husband and I both work from home. That saves two commutes, two heated offices (and the buildings they'd be in), we'd have home computers and desks, a printer and a phone at home anyway... so that saves on double equipment. And as for heating... well we live in Germany where the kids come home at lunchtime anyway, so the heating would still have to be on... though we don't heat most of the house during the day.
