Heather Bestel - shedworking tip of the month

Heather Bestel runs the excellent A Little Bit of ME Time (and blogs here) which aims to help you deal with the stresses and strains of life. Heather is also a homeworking Psychotherapist and Stress Management Consultant: each month she'll be providing Shedworking with a new tip starting today:
"Ask any homeworker to name their biggest stress and you’ll invariably get: “constant interruptions from family and friends who don’t understand what I’m trying to do.”

Boundaries are what are needed here as people will think that if you are at home, then you are available. My tip is to use the ‘Not Now but When’ technique – Don’t even start a conversation with them. On opening the door say “This is a bad time, but I’ll be free after 6, see you then” or “Can’t talk now, but let’s do lunch, I’ll come to you at 12.30”
