Hutliving Project

Artists taking the lead is one of the major projects of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad and is being developed by Arts Council England in partnership with London 2012 and the arts councils of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. One of them is Hutliving by Nancy J. Clemance who hopes to commission 12 artists "to make creative responses to shepherd huts".
These historic dwellings, some around 100 years old, are currently in varied states of repair, with some now completely renovated and others in the process of being brought back to their former glory. The specific location and history of each hut will inspire the shape of the artistic commissions which may focus on songs, poetry, dance, sound or visual art.
The results will be turned into touring and static exhibitions in 2011 and 2012, a publication, and a route for ramblers will be produced. Nancy has been blogging about the project's buildup and we'll find out on October 22 if it gets the green light.
