Two impressive garden studios for a painter and a sculptor couple in Aldeburgh, Suffolk, from Soup Architects (which won them the RIBA East award) who describe them as "configured to create a tranquil, contemplative space in the garden". The 40sq/m and 60sq/m spaces replaced an old workshop and garage and include plenty of insulation, electric panel heaters, and a system for diverting rainwater to the nearby pond. Each studio has a timber and steel frame and is clad in corrugated fibre cement, while the interiors have painted chipboard linings. Other features include slanted roofs and plenty of skylights plus a small decking between the two studios.
