August Strindberg: shedworker


In the summer of 1882, Swedish writer, playwright and painter August Strindberg built a writing hut or 'Diktarstuga' on Kymmendö. Sometimes known as 'Strindberg's island', this was the island he used as the basis for his novel ‘Hemsöborna’ or Natives of Hemso). Below is the view from his hut, courtesy Stefan Geens.
