Love/Hate Travel?

Here's a nice infographic thingy (click it to see it in more readable size) from free conference call company Powwownow as part of their Love/Hate Travel? initiative. Among the interesting stats to emerge from it are that, according to the TUC, 1 in 5 workers believe their employers are preventing them working from home. Powwownow created Love/Hate Travel? to get people chatting about commuting, especially on Twitter where they're encouraging the use of hashtags #lovetravel and #hatetravel.

Shedworking picks the Grand National winner

There's really only one horse with the right name to win this year's Grand National on Saturday: Character Building. Character Building is well worth a punt - hotly tipped in previous Nationals, he won the 2009 Kim Muir at the Cheltenham Festival and will be ridden by the successful Nina Carberry. Odds currently around the 25-1 mark.

Shedspace: Stratford Rising

Shedspace is a one day festival in Stratford, London (not the other place) on July 24, part of the Stratford Rising celebrations. The details are still a little hazy but essentially there will be 15 garden sheds in different locations around the town centre featuring different experiences, performances, games, installations, food and other fun stuff (including, rather intriguingly, "digital plants"...). Royal wedding Shedman

Exclusive: Ancient Roman garden office uncovered in London

Archaeologists working on the new 2012 Olympics stadium close to London Wall have uncovered what's believed to be the first garden office built in England during the Roman occupation. The first excavation suggests very thick walls and some kind of insulation system and underground heating which makes sense since the Romans are known to have found the English weather quite unpleasant. An examination of the seeds discovered on the stones also appears to indicate the garden office had a green roof which shows that the current vogue for living roofs dates back 2,000 years.

Commenting on the find, Norwegian archaeologist Prila Olof who is leading the dig said: "It's a remarkable discovery which shows that even in the first century A.D. local Roman citizens disliked their commute to the Forum to carry out the work and were already starting to work from their back gardens. We've yet to discover what kind of work was carried out inside the garden office but judging by the number of wax tablets found inside we suspect it was some kind of scribe."
