Still looking for a shedlike Christmas present? How about LEGO's beach hut kit (pictured above), three different possibilities in one set which includes what they describe as "a cool summer shack". Features include a cash register (?), floor lamp, radio, bottled beverages, two minifigure, and the possibility of hiring surfboards from a beachfront surf shop, all in a yellow, dark blue and white colour scheme. We've just checked and there is availability out there still though it seems to be selling fast.

Here's the WorkPod from US home office specialists Autonomous who have some bold claims to make about it... It's an insulated plywood build with a bitumen and composite wood cladding, coming in at around 8.5ft x 12ft, with a sloping roof and floor-to-ceiling glass doors. According to Autonomous, "it only takes a few enjoyable hours to complete the ultimate Lego set for
adults. Don’t hire a bunch of contractors to build an extension and
waste the better part of a year." Hmmm...
WorkPods come pre-wired and with air
conditioning (you can see the plans here) and have an adjustable foundation mechanism if you're on slopey ground. Moreover, "WorkPod is wind, rain, snow, and humidity-resistant. Comfortable whether
it’s -60 or 122 °F outside, and securely elevated to combat insects,
heat, water, and mold." So there you have it.

A highly marvellous piece about how to build your home office out of Lego at Apartment Therapy Unplgged features Eric Harshbarger's lego desk above plus lego chairs, phones, staplers, Macs, lights, plant pots... An absolute must over lunchtime.
"When I picked up the box of Lego I did wonder what I was going to do with it. I thought that the obvious thing would be to make a building but that's a bit boring. Then I looked around my workshop – the graveyard of a thousand domestic appliances – and I said, 'Blimey, this is perfect', so I've made a reproduction of my workshop. There's my workbench with my lathe on it, my pillar drill, my grinding wheel, my grindstone, a computer and a first-aid box. It was a bit of fun, and you know what, I can understand why kids play with it: it's good stuff."
Shedworking likes Bosch & Fjord’s vision for Innovation Lab’s workspace at Copenhagen’s IT University, what they call a ‘plug and play’ answer to furniture design: large shipping crates contain a variety of office modules including a kitchen and three different types of workstation. Crates can be combined to form bigger spaces and each one is delivered by truck, unloaded, installed and can be packed away again easily if and when necessary. Packing and unpacking takes only two hours. “The furniture system considers the diversity and individuality of the employees,” say Bosch & Fjord. “It is a consequence of the modern corporate need for flexibility and innovation.” Bosch & Fjord have done lots of other interesting workspace designs including some for Lego in Billund - pictured below is their 'picnic room' which is rather nice.
Office Snapshots is a marvellous site for interesting workspace designs (not many are shedworking ones specifically, but plenty are rather ingenious).
Many homeworkers lead rather digital lives and the day of the digitally-built home is coming closer. On display in London at the moment is an exhibition at the Architecture Foundation's Yard gallery called Making The Digital House, essentially a display of a prototype built in cross-section so all the cleverness can be appreciated properly. Built by Bell Travers Willson the idea is to provide a cheap, eco-friendly but sturdy pre-fab structure. According to the foundation: "The Digital House is produced using a detailed 3D computer model that contains all of the construction elements including every wall and screw hole which are pre-determined before the construction. This information is transferred to a CNC Router (Computer Numerical Control) which rapidly cuts out elements in engineered timber. These are assembled into lightweight hollow cassettes like big bricks of Lego, which can be filled with recycled newspaper to achieve a high level of insulation and air tightness."
