It's been a while since we've had a time lapse garden office build, so here's a really nice one, a build in seven minutes.


And that's followed by an equally nice, though normal speed, before and after of the same build. Well worth a watch also.

Children's steam engine play shed

As the hunt for Shed of the Year 2020 gets underway, one of the early frontrunners already must be this marvellous wooden steam train playhouse which comes with its own narrow gauge railway tracks. The whole build is largely recycled wood, old cable drums, and sleepers.

Garden office 3D virtual showroom

We always recommend taking a look at a showroom or at another shedworker's build before taking the plunge into paying for a new garden office. Sometimes though, that's just not practical, so virtual  3D showrooms are another good bet. Writer's garden studio

A marvellous build for a shedworking writer in south London by MW Architects, replacing a dilapidated wash house, the bricks of which were reclaimed for the office's construction. Inside is a reading room, small lavatory, and shower room. Features include a large fixed roof light, a sedum roof, fold down desks and electrical cabling hidden at picture rail height.

How the Men's Shed movement has changed lives

A great article in the Aberdeen Press and Journal focuses on the great work done by Scottish Sheds. Here's a snippet:

Cullen Men’s Shed began just 10 months ago, following encouragement from the local community council. With more than a dozen members turning out each week, secretary of the Men’s Shed Alistair Wheelhouse said it has helped improve the health and wellbeing of various residents. He said: “It makes the community a better place because people are getting more and more involved. We have about 20 members overall down there, eight of them are veterans and ex-forces people. They are the folk Men’s Sheds are really about. They were in their homes feeling a little lonely, not doing anything and here was a reason to chat.”

Entries for Shed of the Year 2020 now open

A quick note to say that entries for the Shed of the Year 2020 competition are now open. As in previous years, shed-owners need to submit at least two photos of their shed (interior and exterior) plus some information about their shed - no images, no entry. The closing date for entries is still to be confirmed so best to enter as early as possible. You have to be resident in the UK or Ireland to be eligible to win the top prize (pictured above is last year's winner, the Lord of the Rings-inspired Bux End) though the International Shed of the Year title is also up for grabs for those outside these waters. Again, as before, a judges panel will whittle the longlist down to a shortlist and then a public vote will decide the category winners before the judges take up their onerous duties again to select the overall winner.
