Pure Pod garden office
South Wales-based Log Pod Innovations offers various attractive garden office possibilities. Pictured top is their PurePod which is made from a co-extruded substrate - it's 100% recyclable after its extensive life cycle and requires zero maintenance (you just hose it down). As well as the usual features, graphics can be applied (flatbed digitally printed or vinyl wrapped). Pictured below is the Log Pod, which come in a range of designs and with a flat pack option.

Joanna Briscoe: Shedworker
With a house that is impossible to extend, the cabin has proved a delight: a tiny study, a teenage escape and a children’s sleepover retreat. I wanted the interior to be rustic but restrained, without going the gingham or polka dot route: strictly no bunting, barge ware or Hunter wellies are allowed near it. It is just big enough for two adults to squeeze in and sleep side by side, and oh the joy of waking among the dew and vegetables, with birdsong in the cold air; of lounging on the sofa reading; and, as my next deadline approaches, of writing in the tranquillity and resin scent of a real cabin. I can only recommend it. Wherever you live, the woods can come to a place very near you.

The Observatory artist studio
Designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley, The Observatory is a mobile artist studio and workshop built for SPUD (Space Placemaking and Urban Design) and designed to "encourage interaction between artists and their audience, through a blurring of public and private and inside and outside spaces". And as regular readers of Shedworking will know, we especially love a garden office that revolves...

The exterior is clad in dark charred timber panels, with smooth lighter woods inside as well as a rope screen, wood-burning stove, solar panel, and rainwater harvesting. The Observatory is on location at four spots in the South of England, Winchester Science Centre, Lymington Salt Marshes, Mottisfont Abbey Hampshire. Here's a nice video of it in Lymington Salt Marshes in the New Forest National Park.

Church Pods: Ecclesiastical shedworking
We've long been of the opinion that shedworking is a state of mind as much as a physical space, hence our interest in promoting pubworking which would make available underused space in pubs for homeworkers during the day. Another option which is gaining ground is churchworking.
There are many churches in the UK which are increasingly empty and facing a very uncertain future. One option being explored is to turn them into more general social spaces, such as at St Michael's in Dulas where architects Feilden Clegg Bradley have come up with bespoke pods that fit inside the nave and work as self-catering accommodation (pictured above).
But there is also movement on the sheworkingesque front too. At All Saints in Hereford architects RRA have been implementing their Church Pods designs, which they describe as self-contained, freestanding and contemporary solution for historic buildings. One of their uses is as meeting rooms and workspaces.
And at All Souls in Bolton, OMI Architects have put together even more futuristic pods which offer three secure office spaces from £4,000 a year which includes wifi, VOIP, and a 9am-5pm reception service (as well as a coffee shop, onsite conference facilities, and a catering service).
There is also a Workspace Hub lounge for "virtual office members, available for homeworkers, start-up businesses and customers who require a professional place to work and meet clients for only part of the week".
