Saunaworking

This beautiful design by Denizenworks - 6m² on a budget of £3,000 - is frankly not a garden office at all, it's a mobile sauna, though maybe you could do some thinking in here. Anyway, it's microarchitecture at its most enticing and here's what they say about it:

In Åland, like most of Scandinavia, the sauna is one of the main social functions of the home. Our client had tried, unsuccessfully for many years, to obtain planning permission for a sauna. The planners do, however, allow the creation of mobile structures and so we built the sauna on runners to allow the sauna to be towed onto the frozen shores for a refreshing plunge into the icy waters during the winter months. The sauna was built by us from local materials including the internal cladding that was bought 12 years ago when our client first applied for planning permission.

Sheds in medieval illuminated manuscripts

The British Library has not only put online its fantastic Catalogue of Illuminated Manuscripts , it has also effectively put them in the Public Domain, even though they are technically still in copyright in the UK until 2040. There are obviously lots of marvellous images there - in fact 35,661 of them from 4,231 different manuscripts - but with shuddering predictability we've focused on the search term 'shed'. Pictured above and below are a couple of results from Petrus de Crescentiis's Ruralia commoda in a French translation attributed to Jean Corbechon, dating from the Netherlands in the late 15th century. Above is a man winnowing wheat, below the author in an orchard (might he have shedworked in that shed?).

Elle Decoration Germany picks Shedworking as one of its 2013 trends

Alun Callender: garden office photographer

Although Alun Callender takes plenty of other marvellous photographs, he's also carved himself out a niche as a particularly expert in the garden office field. Mikasi

Another one for the Tentworking folder. Mikasi is a design from Sascha Akkermann and Flo Florian who call it "a poetic hommage to a nomad's tipi" which "invites you to relax, to work, to brainstorm, to love or to live". At the January Internationale Möbel Messe in  Cologne it is due to receive the interior innovation award. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nissen hut for sale

These don't come up for sale very often, especially three bedroom ones. Dating from the second World War, this corrugated iron hut/bungalow in Chidham, West Sussex, is not in a great state of repair but has been lived in for the last 50 years until fairly recently. Garden office break-in

Sometime between the 24th December and the 2nd January an offender(s) gained access to a garden office in Oaken Grove, Newbury. A laptop and computer terminal were stolen.
