Sequin shed

Now here's something you don't see every day of the week, a shed entirely covered in sequins. It's the work of Sarah McManus who has recently finished a Fine Art degree course and spent a month sticking (and also adding by tweezer) more than 600,000 sequins onto a shed as part of her final course show: she also used 15 tins of yacht varnish and six tubs of confetti. Here's what she says about it:
"The initial idea behind the shed was to change a steretypical 'male' object/space into something more feminine and girly. As the process went on I discovered that what I was really trying to do was change something that's practical, traditional and inanimate into something which is aesthetically pleasing and a piece of art. It's one of a kind. Sheds are meant to be be boring, dull and lifeless, only fit for practical purposes. This shed stands out in the crowd."

Tudor Craft Shed

It's been a great summer already for shed design competitions and the winner of the Walton's competition which we covered earlier in the year is the marvellous Tudor Craft Shed pictured above by Carmel Cannon from Beverley: it is based on Walton’s current Potting Shed design, but adds an overhang on three sides for that “Tudor” feel. Carmel's prize is to have the design built and delivered to her home (we'll cover the real thing once the photos are in). Congratulations too to runners up Doreen Mulroy and Helen Clifford.
