"The idea behind it is that it's on the edge of the site, it's unapologetic in it has prominence and it points to the end of Mackenzie Place from Stockbridge. Traditionally these big Georgian piles have gatehouses, small buildings but monumental in that they have presence. We wanted to give this hut the same character. We also liked the idea of creating a warped internal space, where it's very tall at its narrowest point and shallow at its widest point."Hussey's goal is to build what will become a social hub for the allotmenteers, a place for meetings and an organising spot for social activities. The building is insulated and will also feature a stove to burn wood from the allotment on cold days.
