Sheds for living: new look

Our look at Sheds for living (from FKDA) was one of our most popular posts last year (here for the story) and now they've relaunched their new site (well, they're still tweaking it a little). There are two models, the Big Shed (6.7 x 3.5m) and the one which is more likely to be of interest to potential shedworkers, the Little Shed (4.9 x 2.65m) which is designed to have an internal space similar to a small caravan but the feel and structure of a small house: one option I particularly like the sound of is a real wood burning fireplace. And as we said last time, it's got ecofriendliness written all over it, with a zero carbon status potential. Well worth a browse.

Marconi Research Sheds, Dungeness

The Name That Shed last week proved to be a tricky test: many of you were spot on with the location but the actual shedworking aspect proved harder to pin down. In fact it was the Marconi Research Sheds, Dungeness, from where in 1899 Guglielmo Marconi transmitted radio messages across the English Channel.

Garden office roof visitor...

The maker of the mysterious noises on the roof we mentioned last week may have been solved. @laini writes:

"I opened my bathroom window last Sunday morning and there was this beautiful creature on the roof of our neighbours' shed. I don't really think he was what landed on my shed the other day because I don't see how he could have got up there. Mind you, I'm surprised he got onto the neighbours' shed. He was really enjoying the sun and knew I was watching him. I was completely entranced by him."

Shaw's Writing Hut: photo essay

We've written before quite frequently about George Bernard Shaw's writing hut at Ayot St Lawrence, Hertfordshire (just up the road from Shedworking HQ) but never really presented a decent selection of images of it. Do you sometimes feel guilty about working from home and compensate by spending the day doing housework? Remember, working from home means exactly that. Ignore the dishes and the heap of newspapers on the floor. You wouldn’t take a pile of ironing to the office to do in your lunch hour would you? Well, the same rules need to apply here. Set your own times of work and stick to them. The chores will always be waiting for you when you ‘come home’.

Riverview: garden office renovation

Chris Lindley's garden office renovation project which we are following from beginning to end is getting underway now - he has pulled the roof off his old brick shed so we can get a clearer view of the building inside. Chris has had some garden problems recently (a sewage nightmare essentially) but on the plus side does have this at the bottom of his garden:
