Jackie and Russell Kowalewski: family co-shedworkers

Jackie Kowalewski's shed was built three years ago when her eldest son decided to return to the family home. Unfortunately, at this time in her life she had chosen to downshift and moved to Hinckley in Leicestershire from Birmingham - this left her with the dilemma of a smaller house + extra person = no room. Here's what she says:
"I work for a Grade 1 FE college as a Quality Performance Leader/Teacher Trainer and much of my work is completed at home whilst Russell runs Silent Solutions, a service that provides small businesses with marketing and planning solutions. As both roles demand an excessive workspace, I had to consider a plan that would be financially acceptable, that would cause a minimum of disruption and (importantly) that would be aesthetically pleasing. The result is The Shed, a structure that changed our lives!

We use it daily, winter and summer, rain or shine. The addition of a Halogen heater helps to keep us warm but keeps heating costs down and a relatively cheap Sisal rug from Ikea stops any draughts that might appear around our feet. The whole project (including £800 for an electricity problem that surfaced as a result) was completed for less than £3,500; much cheaper than an extension - and completed in ONE DAY!"
