Heather Bestel - shedworking tip of the month

Are you managing OK?

Shedworking means that you are the boss, there are no codes of conduct to follow, no weekly performance reports to keep you on your toes and no formal office routine. While this is fine for some, others find that they are spending too much time on distractions. But failing to maintain a certain level of discipline means accomplishing your goals is harder and stress levels soar. Here's three steps to great self management:

1. Figure out what your distractions are (those things we do instead of the things we need to be doing) usually: surfing the net, reading emails, twittering, face-booking etc.
2. Set aside time slots for dealing with emails, post and social networking, then do it all in one go.
3. Monitor yourself – if you notice it’s happening say “caught you!” and get back to those urgent and important tasks
