turnOn - mobile shedworking

An intriguing compact construction called turnOn by design firm AllesWirdGut is highlighted at Judit Bellostes. Intended as an exploration of unconventional housing and inspired by the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, it would be a nice place for some interactive cylindrical shedworking. The idea is that as it revolves, it changes function - so your desk would become a wall. There's a nice piece about it at archrecord2 by Randi Greenberg who points out it does look a little like a large hamster wheel.

  1. I had a similar idea whilst at university for my 'Alternative Spaces' project (long time ago!). It received the same 'Hamster wheel' feedback!

  2. Maybe it's time to wheel out your design again?

  3. not a patch on this one. Mine was a long cylinder which housed a compartment (one solid wall and one clear wall). It moved along the cylinder depending on the environment that you wanted; sleep, work, chill, eat. Various cutouts in the external wall provided the lighting and views. Started off life in a horizontal position and ended up vertical. I think I will keep it locked away!

  4. Have you got any pix of it? Would be marvellous to feature it on the site. It sounds extremely intriguing.

  5. Unfortunately not - wish i had. Didnt think at the time that a scale model of my 'Alternative Space' would one day have the chance to feature on the internet. Maybe I will see if I can make another one, in my new shed!
