TS1 - the best metal shed in the world?

I was asked recently to recommend a metal shed for shedworking. The trouble is that while it's not too hard to find something which fits the bill, it's much harder to find something that is a pleasure to look at too. The TS1 (Transportable Space One) is an honorable exception, the only downside being for those in the UK that the supplier Pluscreate is based in Australia. The building is everything you'd expect from a timber flatpack (modular, customisable, portable, flat packed, renewable, recyclable, and with low emission materials) except it's built around a lightweight Smorgon stainless steel framework and PIR panels made from a fire-resistant urethane foam. It is, give or take a few cms, a 3m cube with adjustable legs and you can add modules together to make it bigger. A solar power system is optional. "The project's concept is based on the design of transforming personal space by living lightly on the land," say Pluscreate, "treasuring the impermanent moment, inspired by the original custodians of Australia, embracing nomadic living and respecting the land."

The TS1 is so good that it was recently chosen as a finalist for Australia's Next Big Thing Awards. These awards celebrate the best of Australia's new innovations. www.nextbigthingaward.com
